Once upon a time, there was a boy named Pedro. Pedro was a friend of Grace, a girl with wavy red hair and big brown eyes. Grace and Pedro were the best of friends because they both loved fairy tales. They would spend hours in the garden, making up stories about princesses and dragons.
One day, Pedro met Grace in the garden, looking sad. "My father passed away," he told Grace, his voice quiet. "He left his things to his brothers. My older brother got the windmill, my middle brother got a mule, and I… I only got a cat!"
Grace gasped. "A cat? How are you going to survive with just a cat?" she asked. "Don't worry, Pedro," she said, her eyes sparkling with ideas. "We can figure this out!"
The cat interrupted, "If you get me a pair of leather boots, I'll prove very useful!"
Grace and Pedro looked at each other, then ran to their secret hiding place, Dreamland, where they had a piggy bank full of coins. They broke open the piggy bank and went to the market to buy the cat his boots. The cat looked very happy and proud in his new boots! "Shall we go on an adventure?" he purred. Pedro looked at Grace, "I'd rather stay with my brothers." Grace never turned down an adventure, so she said, "I'll go with the cat!"
The cat, with Grace in tow, reached the enchanted forest near Grace's home in San Francisco. The cat, a very good hunter, caught two hens! The forest was magical, with talking flowers and sparkling waterfalls. Grace felt a warm glow in her heart. "I wish I could share this beauty with Pedro!" she whispered. And just like that, Pedro appeared beside her, his face filled with wonder. Grace had the power to make wishes come true!
"Don't worry," the cat said to Grace. "I have a plan, and you'll understand soon enough." The cat and Grace walked towards the enchanted castle in the forest. They gave the hens to one of the king's servants, saying they were a gift from a young man who had recently moved to the kingdom. The servants were very happy to receive the gift! The cat and Grace went back to meet Pedro.
They found Pedro in the garden, playing with a ladybug. "Look what we did!" the cat said proudly. "We gave the king some hens!" Pedro looked confused. "But what's the plan?" he asked.
Grace still didn't know what the cat was up to, but she trusted him. The cat, Pedro, and Grace continued to play. Soon, Pedro and Grace decided to swim in the pond. Suddenly, the cat ran off, "Stay right there! It's all part of the plan!"
A royal carriage approached. The cat met the king, who was in the carriage. "Someone has stolen the clothes of my young master and the young girl," said the cat. "They are now homeless!" The king was always kind. "Come, I will arrange new clothes for you!" The king invited Grace, Pedro, and the cat to ride in the carriage. Grace smiled, feeling very thankful.
The cat then asked the king, "Would you like to see the lands of my young master Pedro?" The king, always up for an adventure, agreed. The cat pointed the carriage towards the castle of a powerful ogre! Pedro didn't understand what was happening, but he and Grace were enjoying the adventure!
When they arrived, the cat jumped out of the carriage first. "Show the king around your lands," he told Pedro. "And be sure to make him feel welcome!" Pedro and Grace decided to play along while the cat carried out his plan.
The cat entered the castle, and soon the wicked ogre asked, "What is a cat doing in my castle?" The cat, being very clever, said, "I greatly admire your magical powers! Could you transform into a lion?" The ogre, wanting to show off, turned into a lion. The cat then asked, "Could you turn into a mouse?" The ogre, proud of his magical powers, transformed into a mouse.
The cat, who had also transformed into a lion, ate the mouse in one bite! The castle was now Pedro's! Pedro and Grace could play there as much as they wanted, especially with Grace's power to make wishes come true!
The cat, who also had magical powers, turned back into a cat. He then went to meet the king, Pedro, and Grace. "Come on in," he said, inviting them all into the castle.
The king was amazed by the castle. He was even more amazed by the kindness and humility of Pedro and Grace. "I will introduce my daughter to you as a potential match," said the king, "for I believe you would make a beautiful family!"
Pedro and Grace were very happy. They were excited to meet the princess, the king's daughter, but they decided to tell the truth! They told the king about the cat's adventures, and the king was even happier to meet children who carried honesty and good values in their hearts.
After that day, Pedro, Grace, the cat, and the princess played together every day in the enchanted forest garden. They all loved fairy tales, and they had so much fun together. This truly is a happily ever after!
