Grandpa said stories whispered on the wind could take you on big adventures! He read me one from a book about a girl who wished on a star, and it took her all the way to the Moon!
"Do you think a story could take us to the Moon, Grandpa?" I asked, snuggling my kitty cat closer.
Grandpa chuckled, his eyes twinkling like the stars outside my window. "Well, we could always try!"
That night, Grandpa found a book with a shimmering, silvery cover. It felt warm, like sunshine! As he read, the room started to sparkle! Tiny, glowing fairies with wings like butterflies fluttered around us, leaving trails of glittery dust. One landed on my nose, making me giggle!
Then, whoosh! We were floating! I looked down and saw Earth, a swirling blue and green ball, far below. We were at the Moon!
It was like a giant playground! Everything was covered in soft, white dust. We floated from crater to crater, bouncing high in the air because there was no gravity. I even saw a shooting star streak across the dark, starry sky!
"Grandpa, look!" I pointed to a giant, glowing book lying open on a crater's edge. Fairies buzzed around it, whispering secrets to the pages.
As we floated closer, the book magically opened to a page filled with dancing cats!
"This book is about cats on the Moon!" I squealed. I knew cats loved to jump, but these kitties were leaping over moonbeams and chasing after shooting stars!
"That's because reading can take you anywhere, Scarlett," Grandpa said, beaming. "Just like those cats, your imagination can soar when you read!"
We spent the whole night reading stories from the giant Moon book. There were tales of brave knights riding moonbeams, princesses having tea parties inside sparkling craters, and even one about a little girl who flew through space with the help of her magical book!
Each story was a new adventure, filled with exciting characters and places I had never even dreamed of! I learned about faraway lands, met talking animals, and even discovered how to speak a little bit of Fairy language! (It sounds a lot like tinkling bells!)
But just like all adventures, it was time to go home. The fairies sprinkled us with moon dust that smelled like cinnamon and whispered, "Thank you for reading with us!"
The next thing I knew, we were back in my room. The book with the silvery cover lay closed on my lap. It didn't glow anymore, but it still felt warm.
“Grandpa,” I whispered, hugging my kitty tight. “Reading really is magic, isn’t it?”
Grandpa smiled and kissed my forehead. "It truly is, Scarlett. Now, close your eyes and dream of all the adventures that await you in the pages of a book."
That night, I dreamt of dancing with moonbeam cats and whispering secrets to the stars. I knew that even though our trip to the Moon was over, the magic of reading would always be with me, ready to take me on new and exciting adventures whenever I opened a book!
