Once upon a time, there was a boy named Pedro. He was Avery's best friend. They played together every day in the garden. Avery loved playing in the garden with Pedro. They both loved sweets! Pedro was a kind boy with a big smile, and he and Avery loved to share their favorite treats!
One day, Pedro came to the garden looking sad. He told Avery that his father had passed away. Pedro’s father left his older brother the family windmill. He left his middle brother the family pack mule. But he only left Pedro a cat.
Avery asked Pedro, “How are you going to survive with just a cat?” She wanted to help her friend. Avery was a dreamer. She always thought about how to make things better!
The cat looked at Pedro and Avery. “If you get me a pair of leather boots,” the cat said, “I can be very helpful.”
Avery and Pedro had a piggy bank full of coins. They had been saving their money. They rushed to the store and bought a pair of boots for the cat. The cat looked at the boots and then asked, “Do you want to go on an adventure with me?”
Pedro wanted to stay with his brothers, but Avery couldn’t pass up an adventure. She loved to go on adventures! She went with the cat, full of hope!
They went to the enchanted forest near Avery’s house in Jacksonville. The cat was a good hunter, and he caught two hens! It was magical to see the cat and Avery walk through the forest. Avery’s magic made the trees shine, and she made yummy, magical sweets from her imagination!
“Don’t worry, Avery,” said the cat. “I have a plan. You will soon understand.”
The cat and Avery walked to the enchanted castle in the forest. The cat gave the hens to one of the king’s servants. He said they were a gift from a young man who had just moved to the kingdom. The king’s servants were delighted with the hens!
The cat and Avery set off to meet Pedro in the garden. The cat told Pedro what he had done. Pedro asked Avery, “What’s the plan?” But Avery still couldn’t explain.
The cat, Pedro, and Avery played in the garden. Then, Avery and Pedro decided to go swimming in the pond. The cat ran away as a royal carriage approached. “Stay put,” he said. “This is all part of the plan!”
The cat met the king in the carriage. He told the king that someone had stolen the clothes of his young master and Avery. The king was very kind. He invited the cat, Avery, and Pedro to ride in the carriage. He promised to get them new clothes! Avery thanked the king. She was so happy to meet such a kind king.
“Would you like to see the lands of my young master?” the cat asked the king. The king agreed.
The cat directed the carriage to the castle of a powerful ogre! Pedro didn’t know what was happening, but he and Avery were excited about the adventure.
When they arrived, the cat jumped out of the carriage. “Pedro, show the king around your lands,” the cat said.
Pedro and Avery decided to play along. The cat was going to carry out his plan.
The cat walked into the castle. Soon, the wicked ogre asked, “What is a cat doing in my castle?”
The clever cat said, “I admire your magical powers. Could you turn me into a lion?” As if by magic, the ogre turned into a lion! Then the clever cat said, “Could you turn into a mouse?” The ogre wanted to show off his power. He turned into a mouse!
The cat, now a lion, ate the mouse. The castle now belonged to Pedro. He and Avery could play there all day! Avery could even use her powers to create magical sweets in the castle!
The cat, who also had magical powers, turned back into a cat. He went to meet the king, Pedro, and Avery. He invited them all into the castle.
The king was amazed by the beautiful castle. He was also amazed by the humility of Pedro and Avery. He told them that he would introduce his daughter as a potential future match for Pedro. He thought they might have a beautiful family together!
Pedro and Avery were delighted. They wanted to meet the princess. But they decided to tell the truth!
They told the king about the cat’s adventures. The king was even happier to meet children who were honest and had good values.
After that day, Pedro, Avery, the cat, and the princess played together every day in the garden of the enchanted forest. They all loved sweets! This truly is a happily ever after!
