Evelyn and the Magic Castle

Evelyn and the Magic Castle

Legend says that a little bird knows the secret to good health!

Evelyn was playing with her toy fishes in her room in Los Angeles when Grandma walked in. "Time to see the doctor, Evelyn!" she said. Evelyn loved Grandma. Grandma made the best cookies! But Evelyn didn't like the doctor. Doctors meant yucky medicine. Grandma knew Evelyn didn't want to go. "How about we pretend we're going on an adventure?" she asked. Evelyn loved adventures!

Grandma took Evelyn's hand. "Let's go find that little bird!" Suddenly, everything shimmered, and they were standing in front of a huge, colorful castle! It was the Enchanted Castle, high up on a hill. "Wow!" gasped Evelyn.

The castle gates swung open, and a friendly wizard greeted them. "Welcome! I hear you're looking for the little bird. It lives at the top of the tallest tower, singing the secrets of good health. But be warned, the way up is full of riddles!"

Evelyn, holding Grandma's hand tight, was excited. The first riddle was in a room full of bubbling potions. "What is always hungry and must always be fed, but any man who tries to do so will wind up dead?" Evelyn looked around. What could it be? Grandma whispered, "What about fire?" Evelyn shouted, "Fire!" And just like that, a staircase appeared!

The next room was filled with talking animals! A fluffy squirrel asked, "I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish. What am I?" Evelyn thought hard. "A map!" she shouted. The animals cheered, and another staircase appeared!

Finally, they reached the top of the tower. A little bird with feathers as bright as rainbows sang a beautiful song. "The secret to good health," chirped the bird, "is laughter, love, and a little bit of magic!"

Evelyn giggled. It was a funny song. The little bird flew down and gently touched her head with its wing. Evelyn felt a warm glow spread through her. Maybe going to the doctor wouldn't be so bad after all.

Suddenly, everything shimmered again, and Evelyn was back in her room. Grandma smiled. "Ready to see the doctor now?" she asked. Evelyn, remembering the little bird's song, nodded. Maybe the doctor wouldn't be so bad after all. Maybe it would be an adventure, too!
