Once upon a time, there was a boy named Pedro. He was Olivia's best friend. They were both six years old and loved playing together. They both loved fairies! They would spend hours in the garden behind Olivia's house, looking for fairies hiding in the flowers.
One day, Pedro met Olivia in the garden. He looked sad. "My father passed away," he said. "He left his windmill to my older brother, his mule to my middle brother, and a cat to me." Olivia was surprised. "A cat?" she asked. "How will you survive with just a cat?"
"I don't know," Pedro said.
Suddenly, the cat jumped out of Pedro's bag. "If you get me a pair of leather boots," he said, "I will be very useful!"
Olivia was curious. She and Pedro had saved many coins in their piggy bank. They bought a pair of boots for the cat. "Do you want to go with us?" the cat asked. Pedro wanted to stay with his brothers, but Olivia loved adventures! She set off with the cat into the forest near Olivia's house in Los Angeles.
Olivia talked to the cat. "It's so amazing that you can talk!" she said.
"I'm very good at hunting," the cat said. "I caught two hens for us!"
The cat took Olivia to the enchanted forest. It was magical! There were singing birds and dancing butterflies. Soon, they reached a castle. The cat gave the hens to a king's servant. "These are a gift from a young man who just moved here," the cat said. The king loved the hens!
The cat, Olivia, and Pedro met in the garden. The cat told Pedro what he had done. Pedro asked Olivia about the plan, but Olivia still couldn't figure it out. They decided to play in the garden. Olivia and Pedro wanted to swim in the nearby pond. Just then, a royal carriage approached. The cat ran off. "Stay put! This is all part of the plan!" he said.
The cat ran up to the king in the carriage. "Someone stole the clothes of my young master and Olivia!" he cried. The kind king invited the cat, Olivia, and Pedro to ride with him. "I'll arrange some new clothes for you," he said. Olivia thanked the king.
"Are you interested in seeing my young master Pedro's lands?" the cat asked the king.
The king agreed. The cat directed the carriage to the castle of a powerful ogre! Pedro didn't know what was happening, but he and Olivia loved the adventure!
When they arrived, the cat jumped out of the carriage first. "Pedro," he said, "show the king your lands." Pedro and Olivia decided to play along while the cat carried out his plan.
The cat entered the ogre's castle. "What is a cat doing in my castle?" the ogre asked.
The clever cat replied, "I admire your magic! Can you turn me into a lion?" The ogre turned the cat into a lion! Then the cat asked, "Can you turn into a mouse?" The ogre, wanting to show off his power, transformed into a mouse! The cat, now a lion, ate the mouse! The castle was now Pedro's! Pedro and Olivia could play there! They could talk to the animals with Olivia's special power.
The cat, who also had magical powers, turned back into a cat. He went to meet Pedro, Olivia, and the king. "Come into the castle!" he said.
The king was amazed by the castle and by Pedro and Olivia's kindness. "I would like to introduce my daughter to you," the king said. "Perhaps you and my daughter would make a wonderful family!"
Pedro and Olivia were happy but decided to tell the truth about the cat's adventures. The king was even happier to meet honest children.
After that day, Pedro, Olivia, the cat, and the princess played in the enchanted forest garden every day. They all loved fairies.
This truly is a happily ever after!
